About Dr Carl Bescoby

PhD, MSc, BSc, CPsychol, HCPC

- Psychologist - Practitioner - Educator - Researcher -

I am a psychologist with 10+ years of experience working at the intersection of injury, pain, health, wellbeing, and performance supporting injured athletes, dancers, and performers with their rehabilitation, pain management and recovery journeys.

Back in 2014 I identified the need to support individuals going through substantial change in their lives whether that was injury, illness, or major setbacks and I found that there was a lack of psychological tools and support to help this change.

I help individuals to positively adjust and grow throughout their recovery so that they can return from their setback mentally stronger, more resilient, and more confident than ever before. I truly believe that injured athletes want to grow, learn, and move towards their undecided potential.

I also support physiotherapists and organisations to psychologically inform their environments so that they feel better equipped to navigate the emotional and psychological side of injury for their clients and teams.

- Psychological Flexibility - Self-Compassion - Solution Focused -

My philosophy is operationalised through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy. I believe, I can come closer to understanding behaviour through a relational person-centred approach.

I do not wish to change your thoughts, feelings, or sensations but I instead want to help you to become aware of, assess, and change their relationship to those events.

I can empower you to find and develop the tools within yourself to support positive change and I can help you to pursue value-driven behaviour. I believe that change is within the capabilities of the individual and it is my job to help facilitate this change.

My intervention goals are simple. 1. Develop meaningful positive experiences during the recovery journey. 2. Enhance self-compassion throughout rehabilitation. 3. Develop psychological flexibility to navigate the injury journey. 4. Move towards a preventative mindset to reduce future injury.
